Frequently Asked Questions

What Will Happen On My First Appointment?

An initial appointment should be booked with Dr David Pratt at Sippy Downs Family Clinic (123 Sippy Downs Drive
Sippy Downs, QLD 4556, tel 07 5391 3444) for an initial assessment and to discuss your concerns.

How Much Does It Cost?

Medicare rebates are available for qualifying conditions. Cost is dependent on your particular criteria and how many sessions are required. A single session costs between $650 and $1250, depending on what treatment is required. Typically, two or more treatments are required, around six weeks apart.

Is There Any Downtime?

Most treatments are walk in and walk out. You will be able to return to work afterwards. Usually a 30 minute walk is advised after a treatment for the best results. Medical compression stockings are also recommended, these may be prescribed or purchased. For best results, strenuous exercise should be avoided for a couple of weeks.

Do I need these veins?

Varicose veins can make it hard for your veins to work properly. This can cause the veins to stretch and the valves inside them to stop working, meaning blood can flow in the wrong direction. To try and fix this problem, your body will use healthy veins to help push the blood around properly. Removing the varicose veins can help fix this problem and improve how your blood flows in the affected areas.

What After-Care Is Involved?

A review is scheduled about two weeks post treatment and again at six weeks.
Another review at six months, if required, is the last appointment.

Will The Varicose Veins Return?

When veins are treated properly, they are absorbed by the body and it is unlikely that they will return. However, it is possible for new veins to appear over time. The quantity and speed of their appearance are determined by individual risk factors such as genetics, pregnancies and work-related activities.
